DIMAPUR: Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, has issued an official circular informing local families about the Dr. Ambedkar Medical Aid Scheme, which provides financial assistance to Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) patients suffering from serious, life threatening illnesses.
The scheme covers major surgeries and treatments including organ transplants, brain and spinal surgeries, kidney care, and cancer treatment. To qualify, applicants must meet two conditions: the family’s annual income must be below Rs. 5 lakh, and the patient must not be covered under AB PMJAY or CMHIS health insurance schemes.
Financial assistance is disbursed directly to hospitals, not to patients’ personal accounts. The maximum aid available under the scheme is: Kidney/Organ Transplant: up to Rs. 3.50 lakh; Kidney Surgery/Dialysis: up to Rs. 3.50 lakh; Cancer Treatment (Surgery, Chemo, Radiation): up to Rs. 2.50 lakh; Brain Surgery: up to Rs. 2 lakh; Other life threatening diseases: up to Rs. 2 lakh; Heart Surgery: up to Rs. 1.50 lakh and Spinal Surgery: up to Rs. 1.50 lakh.
Eligible patients must submit the application form (Annexure I) to the Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, New Delhi, at least 15 days before treatment begins. Required documents include: Caste/Tribe certificate, Income certificate issued by the DC’s office, Aadhaar or ration card, and a hospital estimate (Annexure II) signed by the Medical Superintendent.
