DIMAPUR: The Inner Line Regulation Commission (ILRC) of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has announced that a two day national seminar on awareness of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR), 1873 will be held at Town Hall, Dimapur, on August 28 and 29, 2026.
Conceived as a national level policy consultation, the seminar aims to deepen awareness and understanding of the BEFR, strengthen its implementation, and consolidate recommendations for adoption by the Government of Nagaland.
The seminar will feature a distinguished panel of resource persons, including Prashant Bhushan and Shomona Khanna, senior advocates of the Supreme Court of India, academic experts from universities across the North Eastern Region, and the Home Commissioner, Government of Nagaland. Guest speakers from New Delhi and other parts of mainland India have begun arriving, and the Chief Minister, Dr. Neiphiu Rio is scheduled to address the seminar on August 29.
Around 350 delegates from Nagaland and the wider North Eastern Region are expected to participate, including members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, tribal hohos, civil society organisations, scholars, legal practitioners, administrators, academicians and representatives from several North Eastern states.
The Federation stated that the seminar will provide a platform for informed discussion among policymakers, legal experts, scholars and community institutions, facilitating examination of the historical, legal, administrative and contemporary dimensions of the BEFR, 1873.
Welcoming all participants, the NSF expressed hope that the consultation would be constructive and forward looking, contributing to the effective implementation of the regulation.
