DIMAPUR, AUG 26 (NPN): Eight schools participated in the Athletic Meet 2026 organised by the Department of Youth Resources and Sports at IG Stadium, Kohima on Wednesday as part of the commemoration of “National Sports Day”.
The participating institutions included Christ King Higher Secondary School (CKHSS), Don Bosco Higher Secondary School (DBHSS), Mezhiir Higher Secondary School, Mount Hermon Higher Secondary School, Khedi Baptist Higher Secondary School (KBHSS), Northfield School, Vineyard School and G. Rio School.
The programme was chaired by assistant director K. Libemo, with invocation led by Viruokuo Zumu. Dr. Vilar Solo P.T. administered the oath, while additional director Jake Dovo Chase highlighted the significance of the athletic meet.
All winners will be felicitated on August 29 during the National Sports Day celebration, alongside other achievers in sports.
National Sports Day is observed annually to mark the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, who won three Olympic gold medals for India in 1928, 1932, and 1936. Declared a national observance in 2012, the day promotes physical fitness, sportsmanship and active lifestyles across the country.
