DIMAPUR, AUG 27 (NPN): Fellowship of Naga Baptist Associations (FNBA) has strongly condemned the armed attack on Naga civilians along the IT Road in Kangpokpi district, between Makui Ashang and Thanamba Naga villages.
In a condemnation note, FNBA president Rev. Dr. Visor H. Zeliang, vice president Rev. Dr. Vevo Phesao, recorder Rev. Dr. P. James, joint recorder Rev. Dr. Yanbemo Lotha and general secretary Rev. Dr. H. Gideon described the attack as “cold-blooded and barbaric” and said the targeting of innocent civilians was utterly unacceptable.
The association said the attack was a grave violation of human dignity, public safety and the rule of law. It said the killing of an educator, youth representatives and a student leader made the tragedy even more appalling.
FNBA demanded that the government and responsible authorities immediately identify, arrest and prosecute all those responsible for the attack.
It said the perpetrators should be booked under the strongest applicable criminal and anti-terrorism laws and awarded the severest punishment prescribed by law through due process.
The association asserted that no armed group or individual must be permitted to operate with impunity. FNBA mourned the lives lost and conveyed its deepest condolences to the bereaved families. It also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured person.
“There can be no justification for the deliberate killing of innocent civilians. Justice must be swift, firm and uncompromising,” FNBA said.
