DIMAPUR, AUG 28 (NPN): State deputy chief minister Yanthungo Patton, Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen’s Federation (DUCCF) and Joint Council Forum (JCF) have lauded Dimapur police and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) for the recent seizure of 19,760 bottles of suspected codeine-based cough syrup in Dimapur.
Patton, who also holds the home and border affairs portfolio, appreciated Nagaland police under DGP Nagaland Rupin Sharma and the Dimapur police team led by commissioner of police Aotula T. Imchen for their timely action.
He commended the officers and personnel involved in the operation for their vigilance and prompt intervention in intercepting the suspected contraband before it could enter wider circulation.
Patton said the illegal trade in restricted pharmaceuticals posed a serious threat to the youth and remained a major concern for parents and families across the state. He said the seizure reflected the government’s resolve in its ongoing war against drugs and its commitment to protecting young people and creating a safer environment for future generations.
Expressing confidence in the ongoing investigation, Patton said authorities were working to trace the wider supply network and identify all those connected with the illegal trade. He assured that the state government stood firmly behind the police in their efforts to safeguard communities, uphold the law and maintain peace and security across Nagaland.
DUCCF: DUCCF also appreciated Dimapur police for “swift and decisive action” in intercepting the consignment from a warehouse in Marwari Patti on August 25. DUCCF said the seizure of 126 cartons containing nearly 20,000 bottles of suspected codeine-based cough syrup reflected the proactive efforts of law enforcement agencies against illegal drug operations.
DUCCF commended commissioner of police Dimapur Aotula T. Imchen and the officers involved in the operation.
The federation urged law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate the supply network, identify everyone involved and ensure that those found guilty face the maximum penalties under the law.
Stating that drug abuse had claimed thousands of lives, DUCCF said the fight against drugs was a battle for the future generation and called on citizens to stand together.
It appealed to civil society organisations, community and church leaders, and residents of urban wards and colonies to actively cooperate with the police in curbing the sale of narcotics and other illicit substances.
The federation also called for sustained vigilance, heightened surveillance and continued operations to prevent drug trafficking and similar illegal activities in Dimapur’s urban neighbourhoods.
JCF seeks action against entire network: Joint Council Forum (JCF) also condemned the illegal possession, distribution and circulation of suspected codeine-based cough syrup, describing it as a serious threat to public health and society, particularly the younger generation.
In a press release, the forum appreciated Dimapur police and ANTF for the seizure, saying the operation reflected the vigilance and dedication of law enforcement agencies in combating illegal drugs.
JCF urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and expose the entire network behind the consignment. It demanded that all those involved in its procurement, transportation, financing, distribution and circulation be identified, arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The forum said action should not be limited to the seizure alone and called for the source, supply chain and beneficiaries behind the alleged illegal trade to be identified and brought to justice.
Reiterating its support for law enforcement agencies, the JCF urged authorities to pursue the investigation impartially and with determination to ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice.
The forum also called for continued stringent action against the illegal drug trade in the interest of public safety and society.
