Aizawl, Aug 28 (PTI): The BJP’s Mizoram unit president Dr K Beichhua on Friday claimed that the party will emerge as the “brightest alternative” for the people in the state and form its maiden government in the 2028 assembly polls.
The northeastern state is now ruled by the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) which came to power in the previous assembly election in 2023.
Addressing a party programme here, Beichhua said the BJP central leadership was committed to helping the Mizoram unit expand its base and bring development benefits from the Centre to the state. He said the Mizoram unit had recently participated in a national-level meeting in Delhi chaired by newly appointed BJP president Nitin Nabin, where various issues concerning the state were discussed with central leaders.
Beichhua said the central leadership had appreciated the activity report submitted by the Mizoram unit for his first year as state president, attributing the recognition to the unity and cooperation of party workers.
“The central leadership will help us so that the BJP can form a government in Mizoram in 2028 and ensure that genuine development reaches the people from the Centre without burdening them,” he said.
Claiming that the BJP was the party with the strongest prospects of forming the government at the Centre and in Mizoram, Beichhua sought greater support from young people, saying the party was working to bring more youth into active politics.
Referring to recent Gen Z-led developments at the national level, he said that Nitin Nabin and his team were working to bring about organisational and political reforms and provide greater opportunities for young people.
Beichhua claimed the BJP was gaining support from the youth and expressed hope that young people seeking development and employment opportunities in Mizoram would join the party.
He said that people had been assessing the ZPM government’s performance for nearly three years but had not seen the changes they had expected.
“If things continue in this manner, it will be difficult to have much confidence in the government’s performance,” he claimed.
Beichhua also criticised other opposition parties, saying the Congress had already been tested by the people and the MNF had failed to regain public confidence.
“The BJP is the brightest alternative for Mizoram’s development. The NDA government is currently in power at the Centre and is expected to return to power in the next Lok Sabha polls. Mizoram must therefore be aligned with the Centre so that the state can achieve comprehensive development,” Beichhua said.
He also urged people of Mizoram to support the BJP to bring in more development in the state.
