Workshop on food adulteration at DGC

DIMAPUR: Department of Chemistry, Dimapur Government College (DGC), in collaboration with the Food Safety Administration, Office of the CMO, Dimapur Zone, Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland, organised a “Workshop on Food Adulteration” on August 29 at the Seminar Hall, DGC. The programme was sponsored by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), DGC.
The programme was chaired by Jimokali Zhekheto Zhimomi, secretary, IQAC and Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, DGC. A welcome address was delivered by Dr. H. Atoholi Sema, HoD & Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, followed by an exhortation from Dr. T. Tiakaba Jamir, principal, DGC, who underscored the importance of food safety awareness among students and the wider community. He also encouraged students to remain diligent and excel in academics to build a better future.
The highlight of the workshop was a practical demonstration conducted by resource persons Zuthungbemo Ngullie and Lika Assumi, Food Technicians from the Food Safety on Wheels initiative under the Food Safety Administration, Dimapur Zone. They demonstrated simple, on the spot methods for detecting common food adulterants, giving participants hands on exposure to food safety testing.
A presentation on the importance of food safety and campaigns undertaken by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) was also delivered.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Temsunungsang Aier, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, DGC.
The workshop drew enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members, who welcomed the opportunity to learn practical techniques for identifying food adulteration-a subject of growing relevance amid rising public concern over food safety and quality.
