DIMAPUR, AUG 31 (NPN): Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has expressed full support for the Ao Senden’s continued stand on the proposed realignment of National Highway 702D (NH 702D), saying the final alignment should be determined by long-term public interest, technical feasibility and economic viability.
In a press release, AKM president Lanulemba Longchar and general secretary Aomayang Longkumer appreciated the Ao Senden for advocating an alignment that was shorter, more efficient, economically viable and technically suitable, with long-term benefits for the people.
AKM said NH 702D was not merely a road project but a strategic lifeline for Mokokchung and neighbouring districts, connecting communities and facilitating the movement of people and goods while supporting trade, education, health care and other economic activities.
It said government records identified NH 702D as an approximately 85km highway connecting Mokokchung with Mariani.
The conference said the final decision on the realignment should be guided by long-term public interest, road safety, technical feasibility, economic efficiency and future connectivity rather than short-term considerations.
AKM also called for proper feeder roads linking villages and rural communities to the highway, saying this was essential to ensure that the benefits of the project reached people at the grassroots level.
AKM urged the state government and other concerned authorities to give serious and favourable consideration to proposed Option IV if a no-objection certificate was not granted by the concerned stakeholder for Option III (British Road/Chungliyimsen).
The conference also called for transparency, technical objectivity and timely action to prevent further unnecessary delay in the long-pending project.
AKM reiterated its support for the Ao Senden and said it would continue to stand for the larger interests of the people and the development of Nagaland.
