DIMAPUR, SEP 1 (NPN): Dimapur Municipal Council Employees’ Welfare Union (DMCEWU) has served an ultimatum to the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) over non-payment of outstanding salaries, defaulted EPF contributions, pending leave encashment and other staff benefits and dues.
In an ultimatum to DMC chief executive officer, DMCEWU president Vinoto Ayemi and joint secretary Wolumo Humtsoe said repeated representations, meeting minutes, resolutions and appeals had failed to secure a response from the authority.
The union said prolonged delay in clearing employees’ dues had caused financial hardship to them and their families. Despite this, employees had continued to discharge their duties expecting their grievances to be addressed.
Following a general body meeting on August 31, the union resolved to launch a pen-down strike from September 2. It warned that if no concrete action was taken by September 7, employees would begin an indefinite “no pay, no work” agitation from September 8.
The union said the indefinite strike would halt sanitation and other public services performed by employees until their dues and grievances were satisfactorily addressed.
DMCEWU urged the DMC to clear outstanding salaries, deposit pending EPF contributions, pay leave encashment and settle other admissible staff benefits and dues. It also sought a definite, time-bound schedule for clearing employee-related liabilities.
The union said the ultimatum followed attempts to resolve the issues through dialogue and meetings.
