Itanagar, Sep 1 (PTI): Arunachal Pradesh has recorded a 12.1 per cent revenue surplus as a share of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) in 2024-25, the highest among states and union territories for which comparable data is available, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein said on Tuesday.
Mein, who also holds the Finance, Planning and Investment portfolios, while sharing the information in a social media post, said the achievement was a reflection of the government’s continued emphasis on sound financial management, fiscal discipline and sustainable growth.
“Good governance is not only about spending for development. It is also about managing public finances responsibly,” the deputy chief minister said in a post on X.
He said the state government viewed prudent use of public resources as central to its development agenda.
“This achievement reflects the importance our government places on fiscal discipline, prudent management and long-term economic stability,” Mein said.
He said the revenue surplus showed that the state had built a stronger financial base while continuing to pursue development works and welfare initiatives.
“A stronger financial foundation means greater confidence,” he said, adding that it also creates “greater capacity to deliver for the people of the state.
The deputy chief minister added that fiscal strength would help the government take up development priorities with greater confidence and ensure that public resources are managed in a responsible and forward-looking manner.
The 12.1 per cent revenue surplus, as a share of GSDP, was recorded in 2024-25. The state’s surplus ratio was the highest among states and Union Territories with comparable data, according to the RBI Handbook of Statistics on Indian States and the Business Standard Fiscal Health Tracker.
Mein said the stronger fiscal position would contribute to ‘a more resilient Arunachal Pradesh’ and support the government’s capacity to deliver development outcomes for its people.
