DIMAPUR, SEP 3 (NPN): Nagaland Bar Association (NBA) has urged the chief minister to terminate the engagement of KN Balgopal as Advocate General, citing his reported submission before the Supreme Court on September 1 that “Nagaland has only two types of employment one is Government job and the other is underground job.”
In a press release, NBA president A Zhimomi and secretary S Keyho said the association’s executive committee, at its meeting on September 3, 2026 resolved that members of the Bar would boycott cases in which Balgopal appears, either virtually or physically, as decided at its June 8 meeting.
The committee also resolved that Bar members, including government panel advocates, should not aid or assist AG in his court appearances. NBA has asked its federating units to ensure that their members comply with the decision.
NBA said Balgopal’s statement during his submissions before the Supreme Court had caused “extreme concern” and described it as “disparaging, derogatory and disrespectful” to the people of Nagaland.
The association said statement had been confirmed by advocates who were present during the proceedings. NBA resolved to impress upon state chief minister to forthwith terminate Balgopal’s engagement as Advocate General, saying his statement and conduct had, in its view, deprived him of the moral authority to continue in the post.
The association also appealed to the people of Nagaland to support the demand, saying the matter affected not only the legal fraternity but citizens of the state as a whole.
