Chitrakoot/Amethi, Sep 3 (PTI): Five people, including three members of a family, were killed in separate rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh’s Chitrakoot, Amethi and Barabanki districts, officials said on Thursday.
A mud house collapsed during heavy rain in Chitrakoot’s Barachhi village at about 2 am, killing a man and his two children and injuring his wife and another daughter, District Magistrate Pulkit Garg said.
The house collapsed trapping Kallu Yadav (32), his wife Kunta (30), and their children Ansh (5), Anshika (3) and Kalli (1), the DM said.
On receiving information about the incident, officials reached the spot and, with the help of villagers, rescued all five from the debris and rushed them to a hospital. Doctors declared Kallu, Ansh and Kalli dead, Garg said, adding that Kunta and Anshika are undergoing treatment.
In Amethi, 66-year-old Shyamlal Chauhan died after a mud wall collapsed amid heavy rain in Naya Purwa village on Wednesday evening, police said.
Chauhan was seriously injured after being trapped under the debris of the wall of his mud house. He was taken to the Community Health Centre in Bhentua and later referred to the district hospital in Sultanpur, where he died during treatment.
Munshiganj SHO Brijesh Singh said senior officials had been informed about the death.
Both districts have been receiving continuous rainfall in the past few days, officials said.
In Barabanki, 62-year-old Shalik Ram Kashyap died while his son-in-law got injured after a mud wall collapsed on them following heavy rain in Dhanouli village late Wednesday night.
Kashyap and his son-in-law, who had come from Amreli in Sultanpur district, were sleeping under a tin shed erected over the mud wall after dinner when the wall suddenly collapsed, apparently weakened by moisture from rain, trapping them under the debris, police said.
Local residents gathered at the spot and pulled both men out of the rubble. They were taken to a hospital, where doctors declared Kashyap dead. His son-in-law was discharged after treatment.
Asandra SHO Anil Singh said the body had been sent for post-mortem. The local revenue official also visited the spot and informed senior authorities about the incident.
Barabanki, adjoining the state capital Lucknow, has been receiving heavy spells of rain showers and is among the 23 districts in the state which are currently hit by floods.
