DIMAPUR, SEP 6 (NPN): Dimapur Traffic Police (DTP) has begun installing Reflective Pavement Marker (RPM) road studs at 18 identified junctions and accident-prone locations in Dimapur and Chümoukedima to improve road safety and curb speeding.
According to a traffic official, 11 locations in Dimapur and seven in Chümoukedima have been identified.
The studs are being installed strategically based on road conditions, junctions and traffic movement rather than at fixed intervals.
The reflective markers are intended to alert motorists, particularly on straight stretches and at junctions where speeding is common, prompting them to slow down before vulnerable points.
The official said rumble strips would also be installed at selected locations where necessary, including steep stretches and long straight roads prone to speeding.
The initiative is being undertaken under the Commissioner of Police (CP), Dimapur, in collaboration with Traffic Police. Installation began in Dimapur and will move towards Chümoukedima in the coming days.
The work is expected to take around two weeks, with installation carried out between 8 a.m. and 5 or 6 p.m. Traffic personnel are regulating vehicle movement during the work.
The official said the road studs form part of a broader road-safety plan that includes solar-powered streetlights and CCTV cameras. Locations for the solar lights have already been identified and demarcated by the Commissioner of Police and DCP Traffic.
Traffic coordination will continue through Traffic Zone 1 in Dimapur and Zone 2 in Chümoukedima, with the measures aimed at improving visibility, monitoring and traffic management along the busy Dimapur-Chümoukedima corridor.
