DIMAPUR: District Planning & Development Board (DPDB), Peren held its monthly meeting on September 7, 2026 at the DC’s Conference Hall, Peren, under the chairmanship of Namri Nchang, chairman, DPDB Peren.
Deputy commissioner Hiazu Meru welcomed the chairman, DPDB members, special invitees from the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Peren Branch, and the chairman of Samziuram Village Council. New members were also introduced during the meeting.
Addressing the house, Namri Nchang emphasised that collective efforts were essential for meaningful development in the district. He appreciated the Deputy Commissioner, who is also vice chairman of DPDB Peren, for coordinating developmental activities, and urged officers to remain active, sincere and committed to public service.
The DC expressed appreciation to officers and staff for their cooperation during the 80th Independence Day celebration at the DC’s Complex, noting that exhibition stalls set up by departments had received praise from the Deputy Chief Minister. He also acknowledged the service of Assistant Planning Officer (APO) Gwandui Lungalang, who has been transferred to the Directorate, and conveyed best wishes for his future responsibilities.
Under the DPDB initiative of adopting one village under each RD Block to streamline the functioning of Village Development Boards (VDBs) and Village Councils, the chairman of Samziuram Village Council shared his experience from a consultative programme organised by ATI Kohima, and expressed gratitude for the selection of Samziuram village.
Reviewing the previous meeting minutes, the DC appreciated Heads of Offices for their participation in the monthly mass social work held on the last Friday of each month, but noted low staff turnout and urged officers to encourage active involvement. He also called upon departments to closely monitor ongoing construction of offices and quarters at the District Headquarters to ensure quality and prevent future complications.
On the Inter Departmental Tournament 2026, the house approved shifting the venue from District Headquarters, Peren to Jalukie Town, citing lack of a suitable arena. The tournament, proposed for the first week of October, will be held at the Indoor Badminton Stadium, Jalukie.
Discussing the Mini Hornbill Festival, the DC informed that while the event was previously held in December, the Tribal Hoho NZPO has proposed to organise it on October 29-31. He called upon all departments to extend cooperation, particularly the Agriculture and Allied Departments, to set up exhibition stalls. NZPO president Zandi Domta briefed the house on arrangements and appealed for collective support.
On the 2nd King Chilli Festival at New Puilwa Village, the DC appreciated the initiative and urged departments, especially Horticulture, Agriculture, NSRLM, and Industries & Commerce, to extend support. Officials assured their cooperation for the successful conduct of the festival.
The house also approved the registration of the Benreu Brotherhood Club, following verification by EAC Ngwalwa that the proposal met prescribed criteria.
Representatives from various departments, including IRCS Peren, Urban Development, Education, and Economics & Statistics, delivered PowerPoint presentations highlighting key programmes and achievements. For the next meeting, the Department of Youth Resources & Sports and Forest Department were entrusted to present.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks from the chair.
