1 held for overseas job fraud, impersonation

DIMAPUR, SEP 8 (NPN): Dimapur police have arrested a 62-year-old man for allegedly duping a job seeker of Rs 1.5 lakh on the promise of securing overseas employment and impersonating officials of various organisations.
According to DCP (Crime) and PRO Dimapur police, the accused, identified as one Tarun Lachmandas Ramnani, was arrested by Dimapur east police on September 5, in connection with Dimapur East Police Station Case No. 191/26, registered under Sections 318(4), 319(2) and 351(2) of BNS.
PRO said the accused allegedly approached the victim while posing as the “District President of Dimapur East Nagaland Anti-Corruption (ORG)” and promised to arrange employment in Luxembourg.
Police said the accused collected Rs 1.5 lakh from the victim on January 15, 2026, claiming it was required for job processing. He allegedly later issued a fraudulent certificate in the name of “Mama Shelter Luxembourg” and demanded an additional Rs 1 lakh to finalise the job.
During his arrest, police also recovered an identification card purportedly issued by the “CBI (Central Bureau of Intelligence),” on which Ramnani allegedly projected himself as the “Nagaland State director” of the agency.
Police said the accused has been booked for cheating, cheating by impersonation and criminal intimidation.
Meanwhile, Dimapur police have appealed to anyone who may have been duped, approached or has any information or grievance concerning Ramnani to report to Dimapur east police station at 7085055020.
