The Bharat Ko Jano Yatra, a chain cultural programme, was held at St. Xavier Parish Hall, Jalukie town in Peren district on September 8.
The programme was organised by the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Dimapur, under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in collaboration with the Department of Art & Culture, Government of Nagaland.
Eight cultural troupes from Assam and various Naga communities, including Sumi, Chakhesang and Zeliang, participated in the programme, showcasing the region’s rich cultural diversity and traditions.
The participating troupes included Nagajori Sanskritik Kendra, Golaghat, Assam; Chakhesang Folk; Sumi troupe of Nimheghi Club, Xelhozhe; and Zeliang cultural troupes from Indigenous Cultural Club, Jalukie ‘B’; Jalukie Students’ Union; Samziuram; Intimate Cultural Troupe, Heningkunglwa; and Jalukie Town Youth Group.
Speaking as guest of honour, ADC, Jalukie Sub-Division, Albert Ezung said India was a country of diverse cultures united by a common bond. Drawing a parallel with the Naga society, he said different tribes and villages had their own distinct identities and traditions.
He said the diversity had enabled communities to preserve their uniqueness while living together in harmony.
The programme was also attended by Major Devesh Kumar of Assam Rifles, Jalukie Town; Adviser, NZPO Kevipele, representatives of various NGOs and prominent public leaders.
Deputy Director-cum-Nodal Officer, NEZCC, Teisovikuolie Therie, delivered the keynote address, while Associate Pastor, JTLBC, Namnabi Hegui invoked God’s blessing.
The programme was compered by Namgwangheile Nsarangbe, while Mapeudibe, District Cultural Officer, Peren, proposed the vote of thanks.
