WOKHA, SEP 9 (NPN): The Humtso Village Youth Organization (HVYO) has appealed for the immediate resumption and timely completion of the ongoing Humtso Elumyo village road construction under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
The appeal was made during a discussion involving representatives of HVYO, Humtso Village Council, contractor’s representative Tsenpo Murry and Er. Chandemo Tungoe, SDO, PWD, on the progress of the project.
Sanctioned under PMGSY III in March 2024 with an 18 month completion period, the project has witnessed limited progress and is now running into its second extension. Works completed so far include earth cutting, installation of Hume pipe culverts, construction of protection walls and excavation of side drains. However, major components such as FDR, PCC and bituminous works are yet to begin.
The department stated that efforts were being made to facilitate completion by March 2027, while the contractor’s representative indicated that work could resume at the earliest. Delays have reportedly been caused by incessant rainfall, shortage or breakdown of machinery and other operational difficulties.
Expressing concern over the prolonged delay, HVYO urged the concerned firm and executing agencies to take immediate steps to resume construction and complete the work before the forthcoming Christmas celebrations. The organisation appreciated stakeholders for acknowledging the concerns raised and assured its cooperation towards ensuring better road connectivity for the people of Humtso and Elumyo villages.
