The 10th Eureka Science Fest of St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama, was held on August 28 and 29 under the theme, “Science and Sustainability: Solutions for a Better Tomorrow.”
The two-day event brought together students from various departments to celebrate scientific curiosity, creativity, innovation and talent.
The fest was inaugurated at the College Indoor Stadium with a prayer led by Sr. Phaomel Dichungulu, followed by a welcome song presented by students of the Botany 3rd Semester.
In his welcome address, Dr. Fr. Gigi Thomas, Dean of Science, underscored the importance of scientific curiosity and innovation, observing that “today’s science is tomorrow’s technology.”
Director of the Global Holistic Health Centre Research & Training Institute, Dr. Fr. Godfrey Vilasal Thapo delivered the keynote address on “A Holistic Approach in Health.” He highlighted the importance of physical well-being, positive thinking, meaningful relationships, responsible choices and maintaining balance in everyday life.
The first day featured a Science Exhibition, Quiz Competition and Spelling Bee, providing students with opportunities to showcase their knowledge, creativity and scientific aptitude.
The second day featured a Dance Competition, Fancy Dress Competition based on sustainability and the three Rs—Reduce, Reuse and Recycle—and the Eureka Idol competition.
In the competitions, the Department of Physics, 5th Semester, secured first place in the Science Model competition, while the Department of Zoology emerged winners in the Quiz and Dance competitions. The Department of History secured first place in the Spelling Bee, Fancy Dress and Eureka Idol competitions.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Fr. Gigi Thomas congratulated the participants and encouraged students to value learning and participation beyond competition results. He also expressed hope for the continued growth of Eureka through expanded opportunities for students, including internships and new competitions.
The 10th Eureka Science Fest concluded with students gaining not only experiences of healthy competition but also ideas and inspiration towards building a more sustainable future.
