DIMAPUR, SEP 10 (NPN): Nagaland governor Nand Kishore Yadav has called upon the government departments in Mokokchung to shift from a scheme-based approach to outcome-based approach, with greater accountability, inter-departmental coordination and clear targets and timelines for development projects.
According to a DIPR report, Yadav made the call while chairing a high-level meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall in Mokokchung on Thursday to review developmental schemes and projects being implemented by various government departments in the district.
The meeting was attended by elected representatives, the deputy commissioner, senior superintendent of police and heads of line departments.
Describing Mokokchung as the “Land of Pioneers,” Yadav said the district had a distinguished legacy in education, public service, institution building and community leadership since its inception in 1889. He said the legacy placed a responsibility on all stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient governance.
Emphasising on accountability, the governor said officers should conduct regular field inspections and fix responsibility for delays in implementation. Stressing on convergence, Yadav called upon the departments to work as one team, particularly in agriculture, tourism and youth development.
On youth and skills, Yadav called for greater focus on quality education, digital literacy, entrepreneurship and employable skills, saying young people should be treated as partners in development.
He also stressed the need to strengthen agriculture and the local economy through higher productivity, value addition, branding and improved market access for farmers and producers of handloom and handicraft products.
The governor further called for sustainable tourism that generates local employment and income while protecting the district’s environment and cultural heritage.
Urging departments to adopt a results-oriented approach, the governor asked them to regularly assess three questions: “What have we achieved? What remains pending? And what specific action should be taken?” He also called for reasonable targets backed by clear timelines.
Yadav expressed optimism that coordinated efforts could create greater opportunities for youth, improve returns for farmers and ensure essential services reach every village while protecting Mokokchung’s cultural and natural heritage.
