JCF calls for strict action against AC copper wire theft

DIMAPUR, SEP 11 (NPN): Joint Council Forum (JCF) Dimapur comprising NST Colony, Churches Colony, Middle Point, Nyamo Lotha Colony and Khermahal, has expressed concern over increasing incidents of air-conditioner copper wire and copper coil theft reported in various areas, saying the thefts were causing financial losses and a growing sense of insecurity among residents.
In a press release, the forum said the incidents were not merely cases of property loss, as individuals, businesses and institutions were incurring considerable financial damage.
JCF expressed concern that the thefts could involve an organised network extending beyond the individuals carrying out the thefts. It urged the authorities to investigate not only the alleged perpetrators but also scrap dealers, intermediaries and other persons or entities knowingly purchasing, storing, transporting or facilitating the sale of stolen copper materials.
The forum said public and private property should be protected equally and those involved in such criminal activities should be dealt with in accordance with law.
JCF has, therefore, urged the responsible authorities to treat the matter with urgency, intensify enforcement and take visible action to restore public confidence and ensure the safety and security of property in affected areas.
