DIMAPUR, SEP 11 (NPN): Mhayibeni Gifty Jami has etched her name in history as the first Naga to represent India in the Intellectual Strategy Games at the VI World Nomad Games, held from August 31 to September 6.
In a press release issued by president, AITWPF, Omar Mukhtar Tamboli stated that competing in Toguz Korgool, a traditional Central Asian board game, Jami faced international opponents from Turkey, Morocco, Mongolia, USA, Sweden, Malaysia, Cabo Verde and Burundi.
She secured a 27th-place individual finish and contributed to Team India’s 17th-place standing, tied with Korea, among 133 athletes (67 men and 66 women) representing 48 countries.
The Intellectual Strategy Games category featured traditional board games such as Mangala and Oware, demanding strategic thinking, concentration, calculation, patience, precision and effective decision-making.
Jami’s landmark achievement marks a significant milestone for her sporting career and for Nagaland, cementing her role as the first Naga athlete to represent India in the Intellectual Strategy Games at the World Nomad Games.
