Ri-Bhoi, Meghalaya, SEP 11 (NPN): The Dr D. D. Lapang Foundation, in association with the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), organised the 1st Dr D. D. Lapang Memorial Lecture and Essay Competition Prize Distribution Ceremony at the Central Auditorium, USTM, commemorating the first death anniversary of Late Dr D. D. Lapang, former Chief Minister of Meghalaya and veteran statesman.
The inaugural memorial lecture brought together the family of Late Dr. D. D. Lapang and USTM, reflecting the longstanding association between the Lapang family and the university. The occasion also highlighted USTM’s close connection with the educational, social and developmental aspirations of Ri-Bhoi District.
The programme was graced by SMayrolborn Syiem, MLA, Nongpoh; members of the family of Late Dr. D. D. Lapang; Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, USTM; Prof. G. D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, USTM; Dr Elizabeth Kharkongkor, Principal, Ri-Bhoi College; academicians, public representatives, students and well-wishers.
Family members present included Sumarlang Oracle Lyngskor, nephew; Bamedari Phylla Blah, Meaidibahun Blah and Deimebanda Blah, granddaughters; and Aiborlang Warjri, grandson-in-law of Late Dr. D. D. Lapang.
Addressing the gathering, Mayrolborn Syiem, H MLA, Nongpoh, paid tribute to the enduring legacy of Late Dr. D. D. Lapang and recalled his historic contribution to the formation and development of Ri-Bhoi District. Referring to him as the “Father of Ri-Bhoi District,” i Syiem said that the district remains one of the most significant legacies of Dr. Lapang’s long public life and commitment to the people.
In Category I – Junior Category, Da-i-bashwa Rympeit of Alpha English Higher Secondary School secured First Position (Rs 30,000), Sankidon Makdoh of St. Dominic Savio’s Higher Secondary School, Mawkhar, Shillong, secured Second Position (Rs. 20,000), and Phibashisha Marbaniang, a Class XII pass-out and NEET aspirant, secured Third Position (Rs 10,000). All winners received certificates. Consolation Prizes were awarded to Jibansius Marbañiang, Wanplilang Kharbuli and Omin Binong.
In Category II – Open Category, Jannata Mahbuba Khanam of USTM secured First Position (Rs 50,000), Anamika Nandy of Solar Print Press secured Second Position (Rs 30,000), and Iaikyrshan Ryntathiang of Balawan College secured Third Position (Rs. 20,000). The winners were also presented certificates. Consolation Prizes were awarded to Marshimti Kharwar of Shillong Commerce, Kennedy Rynjah of Manipal University Jaipur (online), Anchal Singh of Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, and Shireen Aman of North-Eastern Hill University.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Meaidibahun Blah, Assistant Professor and Coordinator, Corporate Communication Cell, NIFT Shillong.
