Be strong and courageous

Life often places us at the crossroads of uncertainty, responsibility, and challenge. At such moments, courage is not the absence of fear; it is the determination to move forward despite fear. The words of God to Joshua remain a powerful reminder that great responsibilities require great courage, unwavering faith, and steadfast leadership. Joshua was called to lead the people of Israel at a time when the responsibility before him was enormous. He had to step into leadership after Moses, a figure of extraordinary stature. Yet God did not promise Joshua a life without obstacles. Instead, He promised something greater—His presence, His strength, and His faithfulness. The message is clear: Do not be afraid of the size of the challenge; be confident in the strength with which you face it.
The command, “Be strong and courageous,” is repeated because courage is not a one-time decision. It must be renewed every day. A leader must remain strong when circumstances are difficult, courageous when decisions are unpopular, and faithful when the path ahead is uncertain. True leadership is not about position, authority, or recognition. It is about accepting responsibility, standing firm in difficult times, protecting those entrusted to us, and moving forward with a clear sense of purpose. A leader must have the courage to face challenges honestly and the humility to acknowledge that success is never achieved alone.
The assurance, “I will never leave you nor forsake you,” provides a foundation of hope. It reminds us that when we walk through difficult seasons, we do not walk alone. There may be opposition, disappointment, uncertainty, and setbacks, but none of these should become reasons to surrender our vision or abandon our responsibility. Every institution, community, and nation needs people who are willing to lead with courage and integrity. Young people, especially, must be encouraged to dream boldly, work diligently, and face the future without fear. The challenges before the younger generation may be different from those of the past, but the principles of courage, discipline, faith, perseverance, and service remain timeless. Joshua was not merely asked to lead people; he was asked to lead them toward a promised future. Likewise, every leader today has a responsibility to prepare the way for those who will come after us. Leadership is not simply about reaching our destination; it is about ensuring that the next generation has a better path to walk.
Therefore, when challenges arise, we must not retreat in fear. When opposition comes, we must not lose heart. When progress appears slow, we must not abandon our purpose. Instead, we must stand firm, strengthen one another, and continue moving forward. The words of Scripture speak powerfully to every person facing a difficult responsibility today: Be strong. Be courageous. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged. Keep moving forward. For those who lead with faith, integrity, courage, and a genuine commitment to serve others, challenges may test us, but they need not defeat us. The road may not always be easy, but with determination and trust in God, we can face tomorrow with confidence. Courage gives us the strength to begin. Faith gives us the strength to continue. And perseverance enables us to finish what we have been called to do. Let us therefore rise to every challenge with courage, meet every responsibility with integrity, and face the future with hope. Be strong. Be very courageous. The journey may be difficult, but we are never alone.
