DIMAPUR: Advisor for School Education Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome encouraged the faculty of Kohima Science College, Jotsoma (KSCJ) to integrate digital education tools within the curriculum, aligning with advanced classrooms across mainland India to prepare students for leadership roles in public and corporate sectors.
Speaking at the 64th Fresher’s Social of KSCJ on September 11, Dr. Yhome delivered a wide ranging keynote address covering ancestral history, biopolitics, population data and technological transitions. He detailed Naga genetic lineage studies dating back to 1936 and highlighted the global shift toward digital spaces. Observing that local communities possess inherent talents in traditional areas such as music, he stressed the importance of balancing these skills with modern digital literacy.
Dr. Yhome cited recent initiatives including a Rs. 100 million digital onboarding project with Google International and a planned partnership with IIT Delhi.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by the vice principal, followed by speeches from senior and junior student representatives. Academic excellence awards were presented to meritorious students across disciplines, recognising their achievements with institutional and departmental honours.
The informal segment featured vibrant performances of songs, dances and musical pieces by students, alongside guest appearances by Keneisenuo Sorhie, Sammy and the rising band Pinkeye, whose performances enthralled the audience.
A highlight of the evening was the selection of Mr. & Ms. Fresher KSCJ 2026, along with Mr. & Ms. Multimedia and Mr. & Ms. Fashion Icon. Judges included Ritsala Thonger (Miss Kohima 2023 runner up), Leiwang Wangsa (Mr. Kohima 2022 runner up), and Dr. Moaakum Kichu, Assistant Professor, Botany Department, KSCJ.
After rounds in traditional, casual and evening attire, Dadie Medo and Rovisenuo Hibo were crowned Mr. & Ms. Fresher 2026. Veisounii Leo and Khumjano Ngullie were named Mr. & Ms. Multimedia, while Dadie Medo and Yangerienla Longkumer were crowned Mr. & Ms. Fashion Icon.
The event concluded with the College Anthem, a vote of thanks by the general secretary, and a series of performances that filled the auditorium with laughter, music and celebration.
