WOKHA, Sep 15 (NPN): A training programme on “Agripreneurship Development through Agri & Allied Activities” was organised for women from different colonies of Wokha Town at Lotha Eloe Hoho Ki on September 15.
The programme was jointly organised by ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Wokha and Lotha Eloe Hoho with the objective of promoting agripreneurship and creating income-generating opportunities through agriculture and allied activities.
Speaking on post-harvest management of fruits and vegetables, CTO (Horticulture) Megokhono Meyase stressed the importance of proper handling and storage to maintain quality, freshness, nutritional value and marketability while reducing losses.
She noted that fruits and vegetables, being highly perishable, often deteriorate due to improper handling, mechanical damage and microbial infections. Proper post-harvest practices, she said, can extend shelf life, improve food safety, reduce losses and enhance farmers’ income.
Meyase also highlighted the potential of processing surplus produce into value-added products such as jams, jellies and pickles, thereby creating additional income opportunities.
As part of the programme, SMS (Home Science) Deepa Singh conducted a Front Line Demonstration on “Popularization of Papaya Tutti Frutti as a Value Added Product for Income Generation.” The demonstration showcased papaya processing into a value-added product and its potential as an additional source of livelihood.
The training provided participants with practical knowledge on post-harvest management, food processing and value addition, while encouraging them to explore agribusiness opportunities using locally available produce.
