DIMAPUR: Federation of Nagaland State Engineering Service Associations (FONSESA) celebrated National Engineers’ Day cum Biennial General Conference 2026 at the Capital Convention Centre, Kohima, on September 15 under the theme “Engineering Excellence for a Sustainable and Technological Development.”
According to DIPR report, special guest Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso, MLA, recalled the contributions of Sir M. Visvesvaraya, noting that his life was remembered not for wealth but for achievements and service to society. Speaking on the significance of Engineers’ Day, Rhutso said no society could progress towards sustainable development without the involvement of engineers. He emphasised the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in driving sustainable growth and urged senior professionals to inspire and guide the younger generation.
Drawing a parallel between engineering and medicine, he said both professions ultimately worked for the comfort and well being of humanity. He highlighted how medical technologies and instruments were products of engineering innovation, stressing the need for greater convergence among professions. Rhutso further called for greater involvement of technical professionals in administration, stating that their expertise could improve planning and implementation of development projects. He urged engineers to use their knowledge for the betterment of society, guide younger professionals to excel, and leave behind a meaningful legacy.
Delivering the presidential address, FONSESA president Er. Fineson Pojar recalled Visvesvaraya’s contributions, noting that he was born on September 15, 1861 and honoured with the Bharat Ratna in 1955. He highlighted the importance of dynamic, issue based leadership that speaks for Nagaland as a whole rather than being confined to constituencies. He paid tribute to FONSESA’s pioneers for their farsighted vision in bringing engineers from diverse disciplines onto a common platform to share knowledge and improve proficiency in public service.
Pojar stressed that professional contribution should not end with retirement, as engineers can continue to add value through the systems they help build. Referring to the year’s theme, he urged engineers to make excellence a driving force in their professional lives. He described engineers as problem solvers who bridge science and society, forming an important backbone of nation building. He emphasised unity, cooperation and professional integrity, reminding members that “united we stand and divided we fall.”
A technical presentation on Rooftop Solar (RTS) by APEN under the Nagaland Solar Mission, in convergence with PM SURYA GHAR: MUFT BIJLI YOJANA, highlighted the benefits of adopting solar energy for household electricity. It was informed that consumers could avail subsidies of Rs. 53,000 for 1 kW, Rs. 1.06 lakh for 2 kW, and Rs. 1.35 lakh for 3 kW and above, subject to scheme provisions. Consumers may select from 21 empanelled vendors in the State, with applications available at www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in. The scheme is valid till March 31, 2027.
The programme included a welcome address by vice president Er. Chirhotho Rasutho, invocation by Er. N. Myingthungo Ngullie (APEN), a special number by Onensangla Lkr (PHED), and a vote of thanks by vice president Er. Seyievizo Tsükrü.
The business session reviewed resolutions of the previous conference, deliberated on the agenda, and declared new office bearers through the Search Committee.
