LSU directs units to monitor govt schools

DIMAPUR: Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) has expressed concern over the deteriorating functioning of government schools, citing issues such as teacher absenteeism, irregular classes, and proxy teaching.
In a notification issued, LSU president, S. Zubenthung Ngullie and Education & Statistical secretary, Lichon Kithan directed its units to monitor government schools within their jurisdictions and ensure accountability. While acknowledging the use of digital monitoring platforms like the SMILE App and Nagaland Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK), the Union noted that poor internet connectivity in remote areas has forced continued reliance on physical attendance registers, leading to manipulation and misrepresentation of data.
The Union instructed its units to conduct intensive ground assessments, verify and document irregularities, and submit reports. It warned that any teacher, proxy teacher, or authority found involved in malpractice would face disciplinary action. LSU further sought cooperation from Village Councils, School Management Committees (SMCs), parents, and stakeholders to ensure transparency and quality education.
