Masked men hurl petrol bomb at DMR office in M’laya

SHILLONG, SEP 16: Three masked men lobbed two petrol bombs at the office of the Directorate of Mineral Resources (DMR) here in the Meghalaya capital on Wednesday, partially damaging a privately owned vehicle. This is the fifth petrol bomb attack in the state capital within a month, and the second such incident following the petrol bomb attack at the Laban Police Station on September 12.
A police official said the police station came under attack around 3:30 PM at DMR office in Risa Colony when three masked men hurled two petrol bombs.
No one was injured in the petrol bomb attack, but a private vehicle of a DMR official parked in the office premises was partially damaged. “An investigation into the incident is underway to identify the perpetrators and determine the motive behind the attack,” Vivek Syiem, the district police chief of East Khasi Hills, said. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has assured that the government would take action against individuals found to be involved in violent incidents.
He said the government is continuously monitoring the situation and whenever evidence emerges of individuals being involved in violence, the authorities take action as per the law.
