DIMAPUR: Western Sümi Hoho (WSH) has submitted a representation to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Nagaland, urging immediate posting of a dedicated Assistant Election Officer (AEO) for Niuland district to address administrative bottlenecks and ensure basic electoral services for local residents.
In a representation, WSH media cell stated that the absence of an Election Officer in the newly created district has created logistical hurdles and widened the gap in administrative equity. It expressed confidence that prompt intervention from the State government and the CEO would streamline the electoral process and guarantee citizen centric services. Establishing an AEO, it said, would strengthen grassroots participation, enhance electoral accessibility and uphold democratic rights.
Despite being declared Nagaland’s 14th district in December 2021, Niuland continues to function without a dedicated AEO office. Presently, residents across 105 villages-85 under 4 Ghaspani I constituency and 20 under 5 Ghaspani II constituency-are compelled to travel outside the district for routine tasks such as voter registration, correction of details, or EPIC card updates.
WSH emphasised that the creation of a new district was meaningless if citizens must cross district boundaries to avail essential civic rights. It maintained that streamlining electoral administration with a dedicated officer was critical to making governance accessible, fair and truly decentralised.
The apex body therefore called upon the State election establishment to intervene without delay and appoint an AEO to serve Niuland District.
