Wokha, Sep 19 (NPN): In an effort to raise awareness on drug abuse and promote a drug-free district, the Lotha Youth Hoho (LYH) organised a penalty shootout competition under the theme “Shoot Goal, Not Drugs” at the public ground, Wokha, on September 19.
The S. Lotha Team emerged as champions, while Restoring FC secured the runners-up position. Individual honours went to Shancho of S. Lotha Team, who was named Best Goalkeeper and Lipio Ezung of Restoring FC, who was adjudged Best Shooter.
Special guest kilo secretary of NSCN/GPRN, Joseph Lotha, highlighted the seriousness of drug abuse in Wokha district, noting that many youths have fallen victim to addiction. He commended LYH’s initiative and assured support for such programmes, while also stressing the availability of rehabilitation facilities for those seeking recovery.
District Welfare Officer James Ezung, speaking on the theme, urged participants to carry the message beyond the one-day event and into their daily lives. He encouraged youths to choose positive company and use their energy and knowledge to bring constructive change to the district.
President of the Wokha District Sports Association and chairman of MSMEPCI, Yanrenthung Humtsoe, underscored the growing importance of sports in recent years. He called on participants to cultivate discipline, determination, and team spirit through sporting activities.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation, with a total of 80 male and female teams from across the district competing in the shootout, reinforcing the message that sports can serve as a powerful alternative to substance abuse.
