ZSUN, NAYO, NKPO, JBYO condemn armed threat at Jalukie ‘B’

DIMAPUR: Zeliangrong Students’ Union Nagaland (ZSUN), Nsong Area Youth Organization (NAYO), Nsong Kebai Public Organization (NKPO) and Jalukie ‘B’ Village Youth Organisation (JBYO) have strongly condemned the armed threat incident that occurred on September 20, around 11:10 p.m., at Jalukie ‘B’ village, Peren district, when unidentified armed individuals reportedly appeared with sophisticated weapons at the residence of president of the Zeliangrong Youth Front Nagaland (ZYFN), R. John Zeliang.
ZSUN: Terming the incident grave and unacceptable, ZSUN said it cannot tolerate any form of threat, intimidation or armed coercion against its members. It asserted that the growing gun culture and activities of armed miscreants have no place in a peaceful and law abiding society.
The union warned that any attempt to create conflict, spread fear or disturb peace in Peren district will be firmly dealt with within the framework of law.
Calling upon the concerned authorities, ZSUN urged for a swift, thorough and unbiased investigation to identify, trace and apprehend those involved. It demanded that the perpetrators face appropriate legal action without fear or favour.
ZSUN further emphasised that the security and dignity of the Zeliangrong community cannot be compromised and vowed not to remain silent in the face of threats or attempts to undermine peace in the district.
NAYO: NAYO described the incident “extremely serious and deeply disturbing,” stating that the presence of armed individuals at the residence of its office bearer raised grave concerns about safety and security. It asserted that intimidation and threats have no place in a lawful and democratic society.
The organisation called upon the Police Department, district administration and security authorities to treat the incident with urgency, conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, identify those involved, and take strict legal action. It also urged authorities to examine whether the incident was an attempt to intimidate or silence the organisation’s leadership. Appealing to the public to remain calm and vigilant, NAYO rejected violence and placed its faith in the rule of law. It affirmed that the organisation would continue to discharge its responsibilities peacefully, lawfully and fearlessly, and warned that silence or inaction would undermine public confidence in the rule of law.
NKPO: NKPO termed the incident “deeply disturbing” and said the presence of armed individuals at a private residence during late hours was unacceptable in any peace loving society.
Condemning the act in the strongest terms, NKPO stated that intimidation, threats, violence or disturbances involving firearms have no place in society. It affirmed that every individual has the right to live safely and peacefully without fear.
The organisation appealed to law enforcement authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, identify those involved and take strict legal action in accordance with the law. It maintained that if found guilty, the perpetrators must be dealt with firmly under prevailing laws.
NKPO further appealed to all sections of society to maintain peace, restraint and communal harmony, and to refrain from any act that may create fear or insecurity among the people. It reiterated its commitment to peace, security, justice and social harmony, and urged authorities to take necessary measures to ensure the safety of all citizens.
JBYO: JBYO strongly condemned the reported incident involving R. John Zeliang, a resident of Jalukie ‘B’ Village, Peren district.
As reported, unidentified individuals allegedly carrying firearms were seen in the vicinity of his residence during late-night hours. The reported presence of armed persons near a civilian residence has understandably caused concern among family members, neighbours and the wider community.
JBYO views any act that creates fear, threatens personal safety, or disturbs public peace with utmost seriousness. Jalukie ‘B’ Village has always valued peace, mutual respect and community harmony and any incident that undermines these principles deserves the attention of the concerned authorities.
The organisation called upon the Police department and the district administration to conduct a fair, impartial and thorough investigation so that the facts are brought to light and appropriate action is taken in accordance with the law. It is important that such matters are addressed promptly to maintain public confidence and ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
JBYO will not tolerate any act of intimidation, fear-mongering, coercion or threat against any resident of the village. No individual, faction, group or vested interest, irrespective of affiliation or influence, shall be allowed to create an atmosphere of fear and insecurity within our community. Such actions are a direct challenge to the peace, unity and dignity of the village and stand unequivocally condemned by its people. Those responsible for this incident and anyone contemplating similar acts in the future are cautioned to immediately desist from such activities.
At the same time, JBYO appealed to all residents to remain calm and avoid speculation or the spread of unverified information. The organisation encouraged everyone to cooperate with the investigating agencies and allow the due process of law to take its course.
The organisation stands in solidarity with R. John Zeliang and his family during this difficult time and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the peace, security and welfare of the people of Jalukie ‘B’ Village.
