DIMAPUR: Governor Nand Kishore Yadav held a review meeting with officials of the Nagaland Khadi & Village Industries Board (NKVIB) at Lok Bhavan, Kohima, on September 25.
During the meeting, the Board presented an overview of its activities, programmes, achievements and ongoing projects aimed at promoting Khadi, village industries, entrepreneurship, skill development and employment generation in the State.
The meeting reviewed the implementation of the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), under which assistance was provided to artisans, entrepreneurs, institutions and societies through margin money support to promote self employment and village industries. Challenges in implementation, including limited bank sanctions, collateral demands, inadequate loan amounts and slow credit processing at rural branches, were discussed.
The functioning of the Multi Disciplinary Training Centre (MDTC), Dimapur, was reviewed. The Board highlighted ongoing and completed infrastructure initiatives under the North Eastern Council (NEC), including the Common Facility Centre and Emporium for Handloom and Handicraft at Agri Expo, Dimapur, and the Centre for Promotion of Indigenous Handloom and Handicrafts at Diezephe, Dimapur. The Handicraft Facility Centre at Kohima, construction of which began on April 1, 2026, and the Common Facility Centre cum Training Centre at Kohima, currently nearing completion, were also reviewed. The Khadi Plaza at Dimapur, envisaged as a centre for display and sale of handloom and handicraft products from the North Eastern States, was discussed, with the Board informing that the project was expected to be inaugurated soon. Future plans include identifying efficient artisans to operate handicraft centres at Dimapur and Kohima in PPP mode, training people in handicraft production and marketing, and establishing centres for display and sale of handicraft products.
The Governor reviewed the programmes and projects with emphasis on strengthening entrepreneurship, skill development, employment generation and promotion of indigenous Khadi, handloom and handicraft products in Nagaland.
