DIMAPUR: Gaon Bura (GB) of New Market Ward 19, Khekishe Aye, has expressed appreciation for the prompt action taken by Sub Urban Police Station, Dimapur in connection with alleged illegal taxation and extortion activities within the New Market jurisdiction.
In a press release, the GB stated that the arrest of a member of the New Market Business Owners’ Association (NMBOA) in connection with alleged illegal taxation was a serious matter and sent a clear message that no individual or organisation should misuse its position or indulge in unlawful collection of money from business establishments.
He maintained that New Market, being a major commercial hub, should allow traders to conduct business peacefully without fear, intimidation or pressure from any group or individual. “Illegal taxation in any form is unacceptable and must not be allowed to take root in New Market,” he asserted.
Expressing gratitude to the police personnel for their timely action, the GB said the move was vital for restoring confidence among the business community and ensuring that law abiding traders could carry out their daily activities without interference.
He further appealed to police and concerned authorities to maintain strict vigilance in New Market and take appropriate action against anyone involved in illegal taxation, extortion, intimidation or other unlawful activities, irrespective of position or affiliation.
The GB also urged business owners and the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and report unlawful demands instead of yielding to pressure. “New Market belongs to all of us, and its business environment must remain peaceful, safe and free from illegal taxation. No individual or organisation is above the law,” he stated.
