Manipur filmmaker Priyakanta Laishram has unveiled the first official poster of his upcoming live-action short film Interlude, offering the first glimpse of the project
The poster was unveiled on September 27, with the filmmaker keeping details of the film’s narrative largely under wraps.
Produced by Roushil Singla under Priyakanta Productions, Interlude is directed by Laishram and stars Narmada Shougaijam, Baggee Tonjam, Parihanba Thingnam, Ramesh Atom, Ramva Leishangthem and Shorojinii Rajkumari.
Shot entirely in black and white, the film uses a 4:3 aspect ratio as part of Laishram’s restrained and realistic visual approach.
The film also does away with conventional background music, relying instead on natural ambience, location sound and silence to create its atmosphere.
Set against the backdrop of the present situation in Manipur, Interlude takes an understated approach to its subject, focusing on observation, human presence and a brief encounter rather than extensively explaining its circumstances.
The short film follows Laishram’s recent work on ONENESS, his debut feature, which received the Special Jury Award in the feature film category at the 17th Manipur State Film Awards earlier this year.
Narmada Shougaijam, who plays a lead role in Interlude, was recently seen in Sunita, which was named Best Manipuri Film at the 72nd National Film Awards.
Laishram has worked across directing, acting, writing, editing and production in Manipuri cinema, and has explored unconventional subjects and cinematic forms in his work.
Further details on Interlude’s release and festival screenings are expected to be announced later.
