WOKHA, SEP 29 (NPN): A one day training programme on aromatic plants was held on September 29 at the DC Conference Hall, Wokha, with the distribution of quality planting materials to farmers.
The programme was organised by ICAR KVK Wokha in collaboration with CSIR NEIST, Jorhat, under the CSIR Aroma Mission 4.0.
Speaking as the special guest, EAC Wokha Sangmou Khiamniungan said the success of the programme should not be measured merely by the distribution of seeds and saplings, but by whether farmers are able to cultivate the plants successfully and turn them into sustainable sources of income. He noted that growing awareness about health and the increasing popularity of products such as green tea could open opportunities for farmers to begin entrepreneurial ventures.
He encouraged them to start small, gradually scale up, and develop proper market linkages, while also approaching concerned departments and the government for assistance whenever required.
Dr. Rahman Amasari, Technical Consultant, CSIR NEIST, conducted the technical session, covering sowing and planting techniques, land requirements, harvesting methods, medicinal value, and commercial marketing of aromatic plants. Participants were introduced to various value added products and by products that can be made from chamomile and lemongrass.
He also highlighted the objectives of the CSIR Aroma Mission 4.0, which focuses on supporting farmers through scientific cultivation practices and market oriented approaches.
The programme concluded with the distribution of saplings and seeds to the participating farmers.
