4th inter-departmental sports meet 2026 begins in Mokokchung

MOKOKCHUNG, SEP 29 (NPN): The 4th Inter-Departmental Sports Meet 2026 commenced on Tuesday at the Multipurpose Sports Complex, Mokokchung, with Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma, attending as the chief host and Ao Senden president Marsanen as the special invitee.
Addressing the gathering, Marsanen lauded the organizers for bringing employees from various government departments together on a common platform. He said the sports meet promotes friendship, teamwork, discipline, and a healthy sporting spirit beyond the pursuit of medals. Emphasizing the role of government employees, he noted that despite having different responsibilities, all departments share the common objective of serving the people and contributing to the development of society and the state in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
He further observed that development is not solely about infrastructure and economic growth but also about creating healthy citizens, educated communities, strong institutions, and a society where people work together with dignity and responsibility.
In his remarks, Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma said that stronger bonds among government employees through sports would foster greater fraternity and contribute to improving public service and administration.
The inaugural programme was chaired by APC, DRDA, while the invocation was pronounced by MTBA senior pastor, Ponen Longchar. The championship trophy was formally handed over by the defending champions, the Department of Health and Family Welfare, to the special invitee and the organizing committee.
ADC Mokokchung and Organising Committee convenor Atsung Walling delivered the welcome address. Students of Eden Academy presented a special song, while the oath of sportsmanship was administered by PIS, District Youth Resource and Sports, Hongba Konyak.
The three-day sports meet features a range of events, including indoor games, athletics competitions and penalty shoot-outs, drawing participation from various government departments across the district.
