WOKHA, OCT 1 (NPN): As part of its ongoing cleanliness and civic improvement drive, the Wokha Town Council (WTC) on Tuesday undertook the restoration and clearance of pedestrian footpaths along the stretch from Wokha Police Point to the PWD Junction in Wokha town.
The exercise focused on removing encroachments from pedestrian pathways, clearing clogged drains and enhancing accessibility and safety for pedestrians.
Speaking on the initiative, WTC chairperson W. Myingthungo Kikon emphasized the importance of public cooperation in maintaining a cleaner and more accessible town. He appealed to residents to refrain from encroaching on public spaces, indiscriminately dumping waste and creating obstructions on pedestrian pathways.
Kikon stated that while the council has been making continuous efforts to maintain cleanliness and order in the town, such initiatives can only be sustained through the active participation of citizens.
Addressing concerns over the poor condition of roads and potholes along the NH-2 stretch passing through Wokha town, Kikon informed that the matter had already been taken up with the Deputy Commissioner of Wokha. He added that discussions had also been held with the concerned contractor regarding necessary repair and maintenance works.
According to Kikon, the prolonged rainy season has affected the pace of road repair activities. However, he expressed optimism that improvement works would commence once weather conditions become favourable.
The cleanliness and restoration drive was carried out under the supervision of Additional Deputy Commissioner and WTC Executive Officer Renbomo Ezung, along with council members, labourers and machinery operators.
Reaffirming its commitment to civic development, the WTC stated that it would continue undertaking initiatives aimed at making Wokha cleaner, safer and more pedestrian-friendly, while urging residents to support the council’s efforts.
