History drama competition held at Mount Tiyi College

The Department of History, Mount Tiyi College, Wokha, organised an inter-semester historical drama competition on the theme “History Comes Alive” at the college conference hall on Thursday.
The competition aimed to encourage students to explore history beyond conventional classroom learning through drama, storytelling and creative expression, while developing a deeper understanding of historical events and themes.
Students from the 5th, 3rd and 1st semesters participated in the competition, presenting “The Rise of Fascism in Italy,” “France 1789: The Cry for Liberty,” and “Slavery in Ancient Greece,” respectively. Each team was allotted 15 minutes for its presentation.
Speaking on the occasion, HoD, Department of History, Dr. Libemo Kithan, highlighted the importance of learning beyond the classroom. Principal Dr. Bweyhunle Khing also encouraged students to adopt practical and experiential approaches to learning.
Vice Principal Dr. Khyopenthung Tsopoe described the competition as a unique academic initiative and commended the students for their confidence, creativity and acting skills.
The performances were evaluated on historical content and accuracy, acting, dialogue delivery, costumes, creativity, stage presentation and overall impact.
The 5th Semester emerged as the winner, while the 3rd and 1st semesters secured the first and second runners-up positions, respectively.
Individual awards were also presented. Chenithung of the 1st Semester was adjudged Best Actor, while Hayivani Jami of the 5th Semester won Best Actress. Oponthung A Murry of the 5th Semester received the Best Costume award, and Tumben Erui of the 5th Semester was adjudged Best Narrator. (Correspondent)
