KOHIMA, OCT 2 (NPN): Nagaland Two Wheeler Taxi Association (NTWTA), Kohima HQ, celebrated its 7th Foundation Day at Tsiesema Basa on October 2, bringing together members and guests to commemorate its journey, recognise achievements and strengthen unity.
The association currently has 420 registered riders and 17 executive members.
Gracing the occasion as special guest, Medoviu Suohu, KMC Councillor, Ward 18, highlighted the need to create more opportunities for indigenous people within the community. He appealed to NTWTA and the government to give greater importance to riders already operating under permits owned by others.
Delivering the welcome address, NTWTA president Keneisalie Belho expressed gratitude to guests, members and well wishers. He said the celebration was not merely a day of festivity but also an opportunity to reflect on the association’s journey, achievements and challenges, while renewing its commitment to growth and progress. Belho emphasised that NTWTA plays an important role in providing transportation services, with members working hard daily to earn an honest livelihood while serving the public. He urged members to maintain discipline, follow traffic rules, prioritise road safety and treat passengers with respect.
Belho also stressed the importance of fostering good relations with the community, village authorities, youth organisations and other associations. He thanked Tsiesema Basa Council, Tsiesema Basa Youth Organisation and all invited guests for their support, and appreciated every member who contributed towards the success of the celebration.
The programme featured the presentation of the Best Rider Award to Choyoli, in recognition of his discipline and good conduct. The award was sponsored by the family of late Kekhriesilie V. Rio, who has been remembered annually since 2022 for his dedication as one of NTWTA’s finest riders. Rio, who joined the association in 2019, remained an active member until his demise on August 13, 2022, at the age of 33.
A special number was presented by Moarenla Aier, invocation was pronounced by James Kamai, while Grace Kath, Women Coordinator, NTWTA, delivered the vote of thanks. The celebration concluded with members reaffirming their commitment to unity, responsible service and continued progress of the association.
