Midland Council observes 56th Council Day

KOHIMA, OCT 2 (NPN): The 56th Midland Council Day was observed at Midland Council Hall, Kohima, on October 2, with speakers calling for unity, civic responsibility and collective efforts towards the welfare and development of the colony.
Speaking on the occasion, Midland Council chairman Menuokholie Kire acknowledged the pioneers for their invaluable contributions during the formative years of the council in 1970. He described Midland as one of the oldest and most peaceful colonies in Kohima town.
Kire expressed appreciation over the clearance of the decade old clogged cross drain problem along Box Cutting Road and Kohima War Cemetery, which he said was achieved through joint efforts of the district administration, PWD (NH), Midland Colony and other stakeholders. Emphasising the need to develop civic sense among residents, he urged denizens to take greater responsibility for proper waste disposal.
He also thanked the Power Department for steps taken to install two power transformers in the colony. Kire said the present Midland Council team had accorded priority to the welfare and progress of the community and sought the support and cooperation of residents and well wishers in addressing challenges ahead.
Also speaking on the occasion, Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) councillor Kekhrieselhou Metha called upon the Midland community to maintain unity and work collectively for the welfare and overall development of the colony. Neikhonyü Sote, Head GB, speaking on behalf of the GBs, urged residents to uphold unity and peaceful coexistence. He also recalled that Wezulhi and Reikielie Metha were the first chairman and secretary, respectively, of the Midland Council.
Padma Shri Neidonuo Angami, former president of the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA), also exhorted the gathering.
Meanwhile, the Midland Council honoured three GBs-Neikhonyü Sote of the Lower Sector, Khriekedou of the Middle Sector and Obed Kent of the Upper Sector-in recognition of their service and contributions to the Midland community.
Acknowledgement of dignitaries was made by Midland Women Organisation president Nino Zhasa.
The programme was chaired by Midland Council vice chairman Khrielezo Vitsu, while Liba Hopeson, pastor, Poumai Baptist Church Kohima, invoked blessings. Midland Council general secretary Thejazelie Tase delivered the welcome address, followed by a special number presented by Megono Tase.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Midland Council property secretary Khoto Ngukha.
