DIMAPUR, OCT 4 (NPN): Dengue cases are reportedly on the rise in Dimapur, prompting concern among residents as the district continues to experience conditions favourable for mosquito breeding.
Health officials have been urging residents to take preventive measures and eliminate stagnant water around homes and other areas, which serve as breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes that transmit dengue. Officials have also stressed community participation in controlling the spread of the disease.
Residents have been advised to regularly clean drains and gutters, empty unused containers, tyres, flowerpots and other objects that can collect water, and maintain cleanliness in and around residential areas.
Health authorities have also emphasised early medical consultation for people developing symptoms associated with dengue. During a previous dengue surge in Dimapur, the Health department had closely monitored cases and advised the public to keep surroundings free of stagnant water.
With the mosquito-breeding season continuing, authorities have called for greater public cooperation and sustained source-reduction measures to prevent further transmission.
