DIMAPUR, OCT 4 (NPN): Thahekhu FC booked their place in the final of the Dimapur District Football League (DDFL)-cum-Late Hejeto Ayemi Trophy after defeating Akito FC 5-3 in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in regulation and extra time during the second semifinal played at DDSC Stadium on Friday evening.
The closely contested semifinal saw Thahekhu FC take the lead in the 41st minute through Senti, giving his side a 1-0 advantage at halftime.
Akito FC responded strongly after the break and found the equaliser in the 58th minute through Vika, restoring parity and setting up a tense finish. Despite several attacking opportunities from both teams, neither side could find a winner in regulation time, forcing the match into extra time.
With the deadlock remaining unbroken after extra time, the semifinal was decided through penalties. Thahekhu FC converted all five of their spot-kicks through Vituna, Senti, Hobeka Chophy, Elvito Swu and Katoho. For Akito FC, Toka Achumi, Yirampheu Ringdi and Manen scored, while Duan missed his attempt, proving decisive in the shootout.
The match statistics reflected a balanced contest, with both teams enjoying 50 percent possession. However, Akito FC created more attacking opportunities, registering 26 shots compared to 13 by Thahekhu FC and earning nine corners against one.
Katoho of Thahekhu FC was named Player of the Match for his influential performance in the semifinal.
The match was officiated by Itoka, assisted by Kumugha and Nzamo, with Hinato serving as the fourth official.
With the victory, Thahekhu FC advanced to the final of the DDFL-cum-Late Hejeto Ayemi Trophy, keeping their title hopes alive after surviving a spirited challenge from Akito FC.
