DIMAPUR, OCT 6 (NPN): Council of Naga Churches (CNC) has called upon churches, mission centres, prayer centres and Naga families at home and abroad to observe the Naga National Prayer Day on October 18, the third Sunday of October, with earnest prayers for the Naga people.
In a nationwide clarion call for prayer, CNC general secretary Rev. Seksim Kasar said this year’s theme is “Come, and let us return unto the LORD” from Hosea 6:1. CNC stated that around 3,000 church and religious leaders had gathered at Agri-Expo, Chümoukedima, on October 25, 2018, for a prayer summit where the decision was taken to have a day of prayer for the Naga nation. The third Sunday of October was subsequently designated as Naga National Prayer Day at the Naga National Assembly held at GHQ, Hebron, in 2022.
CNC said the urgency of prayer was crucial as the Naga nation faced serious challenges, including violence, loss of lives and destruction of houses. Reflecting on the theme from Hosea 6:1-3, it called upon Nagas to return to the Lord in repentance and faith.
Referring to Isaiah 1:5-6, CNC described the present condition of the Naga nation as one marked by wounds, divisions, bloodshed, killings, hatred, corruption, moral degradation, addiction among youth and uncertainty over the future.
It said Nagas had relied on their own strength, guns, politics and money to address their problems, but had forgotten God who had sustained them. CNC said political agreements and human wisdom alone could not heal the wounds of the Naga nation and called for spiritual renewal and divine intervention.
The prayer points include confession of personal and national sins, including pride, corruption, immorality, addiction, jealousy, unfaithfulness to God, bloodshed, unforgiveness, hatred and division.
It also called for repentance from bad habits and attitudes, spiritual complacency, addiction, unfaithfulness to spouses, dereliction of duty, evil thoughts and deceit.
CNC urged prayers for the grave situation in parts of Nagalim, victims of violence, public leaders for courage, wisdom and strength, and the peace and prosperity of the people.
It further called for prayers for the leadership of NSCN and Indian leaders for the finalisation of “Competencies” and implementation as per the Framework Agreement, as well as for Naga unity and integration, peaceful living and deliverance from evil powers, spiritual blindness and sickness.
CNC also urged Nagas to pray for the revival and restoration of broken families and the Naga nation, renewal of faith in Christ and thanksgiving to God.
Appealing to pastors, chaplains and church leaders to lead prayers on the day, CNC urged all Nagas, wherever they live, to join in prayer as one people.
