Officers trained on GIS apps

DIMAPUR: A three-day training programme on “Remote Sensing and GIS Applications in Water Resource Management” for officers of various state government departments commenced on October 6, at the Department of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Nagaland University, Kohima Campus. The programme was organised by North Eastern Regional Institute of Water and Land Management (NERIWALM), Tezpur, Assam, under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, in collaboration with Department of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Nagaland University.
A press release by NU informed that the inaugural session was graced by Dean, School of Engineering and Technology, NU, Prof. Sujata Dash, while Assistant Professor, Department of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, NU, Dr Pramod Dihingia also attended the session.
25 nominated officers from five state government departments and allied institutions are participating in the training, which include representatives from Water Resources Department, Department of Forest and Climate Change, Nagaland GIS and Remote Sensing Centre, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kohima, Working Plan Division, Kohima, Department of Horticulture, and Nagaland University.
The training aims to build capacity of state government officers in use of modern geospatial tools and techniques.
Sessions on the first day covered introduction to remote sensing, GIS, geo-databases and data sources, basic hydrology for watershed management, and an introduction to QGIS, including hands-on exercises, conducted by Dr. Luna Moni Das, Dr L. Chitrasen, Bhaskar Jyoti Buragohain, and Shuvajit Das.
