PDNA team visits Mkg, Longleng & Tsg for disaster assessment

DIMAPUR: As part of the Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) exercise undertaken in Nagaland, the Central PDNA team from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) and senior consultants visited Mokokchung, Longleng and Tuensang districts on October 6 and 7.
In Mokokchung, the team held a meeting with line department officials at the DC’s Conference Hall on October 7. The visit aimed to assist departments in compiling and assessing damages caused by the recent monsoon disaster. Lead Consultant (Coordinator NRCC), NDMA, Shashank Mishra stressed the importance of maintaining proper records of damages to facilitate recovery and reconstruction.
Mokokchung District Disaster Management Authority presented a video on damages caused by the monsoon disaster, which affected lives and properties across the district. This was followed by group discussions with sector experts and line departments, after which compiled reports were submitted to the Central team.
The visiting team comprised Lead Consultant (Coordinator NRCC), NDMA, Shashank Mishra,
Senior Consultant, NDMA, Chandani PC Senan, Asst. Professor, NIDM, Dr. Gagandeep Singh, Indranil Bose, CBRI Roorkee, Scientist Mickey Mecon Dalbehera, Asst. Professor, NIDM, Rohit Kumar and C. P Mohan.
The team later visited Penli Ward, Mokokchung, where two people lost their lives in a landslide on July 29, 2026.
In Longleng, the team held meeting with all line departments under DDMA Longleng at the DPDB hall, chaired by Deputy Commissioner and chairman DDMA Longleng, W. Manpai Phom, who welcomed the team and briefed on the extent of damages caused during the monsoon season, a DIPR report stated.
PWD (R&B) and Agri Allied departments presented damage assessment reports of roads and fields through a PowerPoint presentation. On behalf of CSOs, president Phom People’s Council (PPC), Y. B. Angam Phom, shared the difficulties faced by the district.
The visiting team encouraged departments to ensure proper documentation of damages and losses to facilitate accurate assessment and effective post disaster planning.
The team comprised Mickey Mecon Dalbehera, Scientist E CBRI Roorkee; Rohit Kumar, Assistant Professor NIDM; Indranil Bose, Senior Consultant (Infrastructure Section); Shashank Mishra, Lead Consultant NIDM; Dr. Gagandeep Singh, Assistant Professor NIDM; C. P. Mohan, Senior Consultant (Productive Section); Chandani P. C. Senan, Senior Consultant NDMA; and L. Jonjibemo Odyuo, Assistant Manager (Relief, Recovery & Mitigation) NSDMA.
The meeting concluded after a consultative discussion with the team and line departments.
Meanwhile, the Central PDNA team visited Tuensang on October 6 and held an interaction session with line departments at the DC Conference Hall.
Deputy Commissioner Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, highlighted the damages caused by incessant rainfall and submitted detailed reports to the visiting team.
The team comprised Shashank Mishra, Lead Consultant NDMA; P. C. Sena, Senior Consultant NDMA; Mickey Mecon, Scientist E CBRI Roorkee; Dr. Gagandeep Singh, Assistant Professor NIDM; Rohit Kumar, Assistant Professor NIDM; Indranil Bose, Senior Consultant (Infrastructure Sector); and C. P. Mohan, Senior Consultant (Productive Sector).
They were accompanied by L. Jonjibemo Odyuo, Assistant Manager (Relief, Recovery & Mitigation) NSDMA. The team also visited landslide affected areas at IOC, Post Office Ward, Tuensang Town.
