DIMAPUR, OCT 7 (NPN): The Inter-School Sports Meet 2026, organized by the Pungro Sports Association (PSA), commenced on October 6 with a grand inaugural ceremony under the theme “Planting Dreams, Building Champions.” The event brought together students, educators and community members in a celebration of sports, unity and youth development.
The programme was hosted by Mount Horeb Baptist School and began with an invocation delivered by missionary to Nepal Tsukila. Welcoming the gathering, PSA president Kinan highlighted the significance of the annual sporting event in fostering discipline, teamwork and healthy competition among students.
Adding vibrancy to the ceremony, students of Christian School, Pungro, presented an impressive drill display.
President of NPF 60 A/C Pungro-Kiphire, Khamong, attended the event as the special guest on behalf of the MLA and advisor for Home Guards & Civil Defence, Fire & Emergency Services, and Relief & Rehabilitation, Government of Nagaland, who was unable to participate due to official engagements.
Addressing the students, the special guest encouraged them not to allow their small-town or border-area background to limit their aspirations. Emphasizing that “dreams do not read maps,” he cited renowned sporting personalities Mary Kom and Neeraj Chopra as examples of individuals who rose from humble beginnings to achieve national and international recognition.
He urged students to pursue their ambitions with courage, determination and confidence, reminding them that a dream nurtured in Pungro today could one day lead them to success on state, national and global platforms. Expressing optimism about the future, he said that many young athletes would one day look back with pride and acknowledge that their journey began at the Inter-School Sports Meet organized by the PSA.
The inaugural programme concluded with the oath-taking ceremony, followed by the formal declaration opening the Inter-School Sports Meet 2026, marking the beginning of several days of sporting competition among participating schools.
