KOHIMA, OCT 7 (NPN): Oriental College, Kohima, hosted the two-day 7th Men’s Open Basketball Trophy (MOBT) at the college campus on October 7. The inaugural programme was graced by advisor for School Education Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, MLA.
Addressing the gathering, Yhome stressed the importance of maintaining the spirit of sportsmanship, irrespective of the size of the team or the number of participants. He also highlighted the importance of healthy living, encouraging students to consume nutritious vegetables and maintain wellness through sports and regular exercise.
Yhome further emphasised the role of discipline in a student’s life, stating that discipline is essential for personal development and future responsibilities. Referring to the younger generation, he said that by 2035, Gen Z would increasingly take over various institutions and leadership roles, including at the political level.
He encouraged students to build meaningful relationships beyond the classroom and said that sports provide an important platform for students to know and understand one another while developing sportsmanship and teamwork.
Earlier, the inaugural programme was chaired by assistant professor Akhrienuo Chietsu, while assistant professor Aboli Chikhe delivered the invocation. Principal Dr. Watinaro Longkumer delivered the welcome address. A special performance was presented by Justine Yiese.
The oath-taking ceremony was administered by HoD, Department of History, Tumben Ngullie, formally marking the commencement of the tournament.
Five teams are participating in this year’s MOBT—ABC, BK & Co., Team Mystic Ballers (TMB), Kohima Highlanders, and OCK.
