DIMAPUR, OCT 8 (NPN): Centre Chakhesang Youth Organisation (CCYO) has announced an indefinite picketing of three forest department offices in Phek district from October 12, 2026 as part of its phase-II agitation.
In a press release, CCYO general secretary Shevoto Vezuh said agitation would begin at 10am on October 12 at the offices of the divisional forest officer (DFO), Phek, forest range officer (FRO), Phek, and FRO, Pfutsero.
The organisation said its movement was aimed at securing due respect for the customary rights, traditions and institutions of the Chakhesang people. It appealed to participants and concerned citizens to maintain peace, discipline and dignity during the agitation.
CCYO also appealed to the youth of Phek and Pfutsero towns to support and participate in the movement, saying the issues raised concerned the rights, dignity, customary practices and welfare of the people of Nagaland.
With Wildlife Week concluding on October 8, the CCYO, in accordance with the advice of the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) and Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF), said the ban on hunting within the Centre Chakhesang jurisdiction would remain in force from October 9.
However, it said the non-cooperation movement against the forest department, including its continued position of non-operation and non-enforcement of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 within the area, would continue until its demands were addressed and fulfilled.
CCYO said it remained committed to pursuing the matter peacefully and democratically and appealed to all sections of society to remain united and uphold peace and public order during the movement.
