DIMAPUR, OCT 8 (NPN): The 5th Nagaland Kho Kho Intensive Coaching Camp commenced on Thursday at St Anthony School Ground, Tenyiphe-I, Chümoukedima. Organised by the Nagaland Kho Kho Association (NKKA), the two-day camp will continue till October 9.
Speaking as the special guest at the inaugural session, Research Officer-in-charge, Regional Ayurveda Centre, Dimapur, Dr Dipsundar Sahu, stressed the importance of outdoor sports for children and youth, particularly in the post-COVID period amid increasing dependence on mobile phones, the internet and digital platforms.
He said sports such as kho kho, football and basketball help young people remain physically active while developing social skills. Sports also foster discipline, leadership, confidence and sportsmanship, besides improving concentration and overall physical and mental well-being.
Dr Sahu noted that participation in team sports provides children with opportunities for socialisation, particularly at a time when interaction outside their immediate families has declined.
He encouraged players to maintain a disciplined lifestyle and pay attention to their diet, cautioning against excessive consumption of fast food and stressing the importance of healthy eating habits from an early age.
He also emphasised the importance of maintaining a healthy routine throughout the day, including regular exercise, proper diet and discipline.
Dr Sahu appreciated St Anthony School for encouraging students to participate in outdoor sports, saying such activities contribute to the physical, mental and social development of young people.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by assistant teacher Salvi, with invocation offered by assistant teacher Binoy. Welcome address was delivered by Headmaster, St Anthony School, Rev Fr Francis Cheerangal, followed by a special number presented by Machoni and Imtimenla.
