Don Bosco College Kohima (DBCK) today launched the 12th edition of Euphoria, organised by the DBCK Student Forum (DBCKSF), with the first phase of the two-day event beginning with a cultural day on the theme, “Wisdom of Ancestors, Knowledge of Tomorrow.”
According to a press release, the event is being held from October 8 to 9, with the opening day focusing on cultural expression, creativity and youth participation.
Speaking as the special invitee, SDO (C) Kohima Sadar Seyiekhrietuo Solo encouraged the younger generation to embrace technology, innovation and new ideas while remaining connected to their cultural roots.
Reflecting on the theme, Solo stressed the need to balance modernisation with cultural identity. He said culture goes beyond traditional dances, songs and festivals, and also includes values such as respect, honesty, kindness and hospitality.
He also highlighted traditional weaving and textiles as important forms of knowledge passed down through generations, carrying the stories, skills and heritage of the Naga people. He called on young people to “learn, practise, teach and document” their traditions and combine the wisdom of the past with the knowledge of the future through technology and creativity.
Solo further reminded the youth that being modern does not mean becoming “less Naga” and urged them to take pride in their identity and pass their cultural heritage on to future generations.
In his welcome address, DBCK Principal Rev. Fr. Dr. Tious Varghese described Euphoria as a celebration of creativity, youthful spirit and cultural expression. He encouraged the participants to take part in the event with enthusiasm, mutual respect and a spirit of togetherness.
The programme also featured a special performance by the DBCK Music Club. The programme was chaired by Razouvolie Tsurho, Department of Sociology. Senjano N Murry, Assistant Professor, Department of History, invoked God’s blessings, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Viketsonuo Kiewhuo, Social and Cultural Secretary, DBCKSF. Kewale Wozah, Assistant Professor, Department of Education, pronounced the benediction.
The formal programme was followed by an informal session in which four groups took part in various competitive events, providing the participants an opportunity to showcase their creativity, team spirit and active participation in a friendly atmosphere.
